Course Description
This course is relevant to supervisors who work in the mining industry and to those who intend to seek (and maintain) employment in the surface coal mining industry. Application of the processes and tasks to conduct inspections and to identify, analyse, assess risks, recommend treatment, contribute to implementation of treatments and to monitor risks; Preparation, testing and documentation of site working instructions or equivalent; Application of safety and health investigative processes at the operational level, including the identification and collection of evidence, the analysis of evidence to identify the reasons for and results of the occurrence or situations; Identification and documentation of courses of action to resolve and or prevent re-occurrence of the issues or problems; Function required to effectively communicate information with other persons in the mining industry and Communicating verbally, communicating in written and report form, participating in meetings, making presentations, and participating in operational level negotiations.

Course Content 
Identify and explain OH&S legislative requirements;
| • | Application of the processes and tasks to conduct inspections and to identify, analyse, assess risks, recommend treatment, contribute to implementation of treatments and to monitor risks; |
| • | Preparation, testing and documentation of site working instructions or equivalent; |
| • | Application of safety and health investigative processes at the operational level, including the identification and collection of evidence, the analysis of evidence to identify the reasons for and results of the occurrence or situations; |
| • | Identification and documentation of courses of action to resolve and/or prevent re-occurrence of the issues or problems; |
| • | Function required to effectively communicate information with other persons in the mining industry; |
| • | Communicating verbally, communicating in written and report form, participating in meetings, making presentations, and participating in operational level negotiations. |
Course Outcomes 
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
| • | Conduct inspections; |
| • | Understand risk management concepts and be able to perform risk assessments in accordance with the hierarchy or control; |
| • | Develop site working instructions; |
| • | Identification and documentation of courses of action to resolve and/or prevent re-occurrence of the issues or problems; |
| • | Conduct incident investigations; |
| • | Understand appropriate methods of communication. |
Course Requirements 
Participants must provide photographic identification (i.e. driver's licence, passport).

Assessments & Awards 
Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of RII30109 Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations
Entry Requirements 
• Participants should have sufficient literacy & numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace.
• (option 1) - Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend a two-day classroom based course or;
• (option 2) - Have access to a suitable computer/internet/printer for the online option.

Conditions of registration & payment for this course 
Conditions
OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia has a fair and equitable Refund Policy guaranteeing the refund of fees to course participants under reasonable circumstances. The management guarantees OHSA's sound financial position and safeguards clients' fees until used for learning and assessment.
An organisation or individual may substitute another participant prior to course commencement date at no cost should the nominated person be unable to attend as long as notification is provided in writing prior to commencement of the course.
Registration may be transferred to another course or cancelled at no cost up to fifteen working days prior to a course providing notification is in writing.
Transfers to another course or cancellations made between ten and fifteen working days (3 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 20% administration fee.
Transfers to another course or cancellations made between five and ten working days (2 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 35% administration fee.
For cancellations or transfers made inside five working days prior to the commencement of the course, no refund will be issued, however a substitute may attend the course as per Item 1 above. No refunds will be made after the commencement of the course unless the participant provides a medical certificate or can demonstrate extreme personal hardship. In this case, the participant may transfer to a subsequent course at the discretion of management.
OHSA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course to an alternative date. All registered participants affected by such changes will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the next available course program or receive a full refund.
Note: Bookings on courses are not guaranteed until payment is received.
Payment
Full payment is required before commencement of training, unless prior arrangements have been made with OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia management or accounts department.
Full payment for courses must be made when submitting your registration request, invoices will be issued to persons/organisations who are paying on behalf of students and must be paid before a student is officially registered.

Proof of Identity Requirement
Participants in accredited training modules must provide proof of identity to the responsible person at OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia, who will sight and verify the evidence on the first day of training, record the type of evidence provided on the attendance sheet and sign the declaration.
